'Stangs girls win 2-0 on the pitch; girls lacrosse falls late; girls tennis swept; and bys swim and dive fares well in Thornton.
 
Mullen scored twice in the first half on Monday and the Mustangs made them stand as they took a 2-0 road victory over George Washington in Class 4A nonleague girls soccer.

The Mustangs leveled their record at 4-4. GW is 4-2.

Brooklynn Rich and Riley Guetz scored for Mullen.

Kate Vezzani and Elizabeth McDermott had the assists.

The Mustangs will return to the Centennial League schedule for the next five matches, two this week – they will host Smoky Hill on Tuesday, April 12, and head to Overland in Aurora on Thursday, April 14, both at 4:30 p.m.

Girls Lacrosse

The Mustangs lost a nail-biter at home to Palmer Ridge, 11-10 in nonleague at Brother Bernard Kinneavy De La Salle Stadium.

Mullen overcame deficits of four goals early and six in the second half before earning a tie at 10 down the stretch. Palmer Ridge went ahead with 1:39 to play and got the draw before Mullen defense regained possession.

However, the Mustangs misfired with 2 seconds to play.

Mullen, now 3-4, received three goals each by Charlie Beck and Haley Vanek.

The Mustangs will return to 5A East League play on Wednesday, April 13, at Denver East 5:30 p.m.

Girls Tennis

The Mustangs were swept 7-0 by visiting D’Evelyn in nonleague girls tennis.

Mullen is 2-3 in duals.

D’Evelyn won each line in straight sets.

The Mustangs will return to Centennial League play on Tuesday, April 12, at Cherokee Trail in Aurora, 3:30 p.m.

Boys Swim & Dive

In Thornton, the Mustangs took third place as a team in the recent Five Star Relays at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center.

Mullen totaled 294 points behind Fossil Ridge 732 and Legacy 668. Horizon had 180 for fourth.

The novel relays, which offer a break from the regular format, contained 11 assorted races for teams.  

The Mustangs’ best finish occurred in the 200-yard medley relay in which Noah Mooney, Austin Linn, Henry Montgomery, James Galligan were runners-up in 1 minute, 41.99 seconds.
