'Stangs add 6 signees
A half-dozen Mullen college signees cap the Class of 2022 at 2 dozen.
Mullen’s final signing day of 2021-22 added another half-dozen to its list.
The most-recent Mustangs signees will compete on the next level in football, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer and wrestling.
All told, 26 Mullen student-athletes in the Class of 2022 have secured deals for all levels of college sports.
Here’s a rundown on Wednesday’s signees:
--- Sofia Choi signed for golf with Washington University in St. Louis.
“I was invited to come on campus and I liked it,” Choi said, noting the Generals are ranked No. 13 in Division III.
She’s one of Colorado’s top players with runners-up showings as a freshman and junior (there was no season for her as a sophomore because of the coronavirus COVID-19).
Les Scwab Academic All-State; Academic Team Championship; World History subject award; Torch Award recipient twice; 3.99 GPA; will major in Applied Psychology.
--- Andrew DeBerardinis signed for soccer with Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass.
He was a 4A first-team all-stater and helped the Mustangs to the title match.
First team all-Centennial League; Academic All-state; four-year letterman; Torch Award; English III and Physical Science subject awards; National Honor Society; National Social Studies Honor Society; Lasallian Youth; Turning Point USA Club; Cybersecurity Club; 4.39 GPA; will major in Business and Computer Science.
--- Jack Krza signed for football with St. John’s, Minn.
“It was amazing,” Krza said of the campus.
He’s a three-year letterman in football and uniquely combined it with his skills in swimming, where he is a four-year letterman.
Played multiple positions in football – he’ll be a defensive end at St. John’s; placed in the 4A 200-yard free relay; team captain in swimming; Spanish II A College Prep and Chemistry B AP subject awards; 3.15 GPA; will major in Accounting and Finance.
--- Alyssa Terry signed for rowing at St. Mary’s Calif.
She competed in Mullen volleyball and swimming, which drew the Gaels’ attention.
“They recruit varsity rowers if they swim and play volleyball,” said Terry, who has never rowed, of Gaels’ officials. “They flew me out, I saw it, loved it and it’s so super intense. (Rowers) are huge and so fit. It’s a team sport, which is what I want.”
Team captain and state-qualifier in swimming; all-Centennial League second team and Miss Mustang in volleyball; four-time Torch Award; Strength and Conditioning subject award; Core Leader; NHS; 3.7 GPA; will major in kinesiology.
--- Max Thomason signed for lacrosse at Benedictine, Kan.
“The school seemed rally great, it was a great community and it just seemed like a good fit,” Thomason said.
He’s a high-end faceoff specialist, an in-demand position.
He joined the lacrosse team as a junior; played football for the Mustangs his first three eyars.
He’ll head to Benedictine with a 3.0 GPA and major in business.
--- Mark Troni signed for wrestling at Washington and Lee, Ken.
“I really liked the camp I attended there, the competition and the beautiful city,” Troni said.
A four-time letter winner, he was all-Centennial twice, placed fifth as a sophomore, was ill as a junior and third in 3A at 160 despite battling the flu.
Two-time Torch Award; Geometry and English III subject awards; National Spanish Honor Society; Lasallian Youth; Student Ambassador; 4.16 GPA; undecided on a major.
