'Stangs swim to 6th in 4A pool

With less than a dozen qualifiers, Mullen showed well at Colorado’s Class 4A Championships for boys swimming and diving.

In Friday’s finals at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton, the Mustangs took sixth place and had scoring in seven of the 12 events.

Austin Linn had the best individual showing for Mullen, taking fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.49 seconds. Linn was followed by James Galligan, sixth, 1:01.02, and Henry Montgomery, 15th, 1:02.71.

Noah Mooney was fifth in the 200 individual medley, 1:59.61; Austin Linn was sixth, 2:00.74; and Oliver Valdez, ninth, 2:01.77.

Mullen’s other showings in the 100 butterfly, 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 100 backstroke and 400 freestyle relay were in the ‘B’ finals and also came through Ben Hoody, Noah Johnson, Jack Krza, John Rodriguez and Louis Roth.

Mooney and Valdez also were the only Mustangs to place in three events, including a relay.
