Andrew Brady, Student-Athlete of the Week

High-school sport: Baseball (infielder).

What I’ve done lately:
Is 13 for his past 19 (.684); leads the Mustangs as well as Class 5A with 26 extra-base hits; and stands third in 5A slugging percentage (1.093) and tied in 5A for seventh in home runs (seven).

Grade-point average:
4.15.

Class:
Senior.

Why I attend Mullen:
My dad (Joe, Class of 1985) went here and played basketball, and so I’ve had a lot of family members go here, seven or eight, or more, actually … it’s in my famly. We like the private-school aspect as well as the religious part.

The best thing about my sport:
I kind of like how it’s tough, obviously, and it’s all in your hands, If you’re doing badly, which is how I started, really bad, you work hard. Now, I’m batting close to .500 (.493). If you put in the work, you can back it up.

In my future:
Right now, I’m thinking nonstop about winning it (in 5A) with the boys, then playing with a summer team in college, then playing some at (Colorado School of Mines) as a freshman. It’s a longshot, but it can be done.

Pre-Game ritual:
The last few games, (teammate) Dom Gamueda and I were wearing the same tape and we had been doing a different color. But since I hit the three home runs against Arapahoe (in the final Centennial League game) and we were wearing purple, I think we’re going to go with the purple tape from now on.

Favorite college team:
I’m a big fan of Alabama baseball and football.

Why I play:
I just like the big moments, I think about them a lot, having the big moments and coming out on top with the boys. I want to win badly and all my teammates want to win badly, too. It’s about experiencing the amazing moments.
