Mullen High School Names Jerry Koehler Head Coach of Girls Golf Program

Melynda Brown, Athletics Director
Mullen High School is proud to announce the appointment of Jerry Koehler as the new Head Coach of the Mustangs Girls Golf program, further strengthening one of Colorado's premier high school golf programs and continuing Mullen's commitment to developing exceptional student-athletes rooted in faith, character, and excellence.
Koehler brings nearly two decades of coaching experience at Mullen, including 19 seasons as head coach of the boys golf program and the past two years as an assistant coach with the girls team. His leadership creates a seamless partnership between the boys and girls programs while continuing the tradition of excellence that has made Mullen Athletics one of the most respected athletic programs among private high schools in Denver.

Few individuals embody the spirit of Mullen quite like Koehler. A member of the Mullen community for more than 20 years, he and his wife chose Mullen to educate their three children. Long after their daughters and son graduated, Koehler remained committed to serving the school, mentoring countless student-athletes both on and off the golf course.

For Koehler, coaching has always been about much more than lowering scores.

Whether on the driving range or walking the fairways, he believes golf is an opportunity to build confidence, integrity, resilience, and leadership. His coaching philosophy mirrors Mullen's Lasallian Catholic mission—meeting students where they are, believing in their potential, and helping them become the young women they are called to be.

Following a distinguished career leading a Denver-area architecture firm, Koehler retired and began enjoying more time traveling and golfing with his son. Yet his passion for mentoring young people never faded. With years of planning and the right opportunity, accepting the leadership of the girls golf program became the perfect next chapter.
"Jerry has been one of the pillars of Mullen Athletics for nearly two decades," said Athletic Director Melynda Brown. "When someone has poured into students the way Jerry has, you don't simply replace them—you find new ways for them to continue making an impact. This opportunity allows Jerry to keep doing what he does best: building relationships, developing young people, and living our Lasallian mission every day. We couldn't be more excited for our girls to experience the care, wisdom, and passion he brings to every student-athlete."
Brown added that Koehler has long understood that successful coaching is about connecting with each athlete as an individual.
"Jerry recognizes that every student-athlete has unique strengths and motivations. He loves seeing young people discover confidence in themselves, and that's what makes him such an extraordinary coach."
The appointment has been met with excitement throughout the girls golf program. Having already built relationships with many of the athletes as an assistant coach, Koehler provides continuity while bringing nearly 20 years of championship-level coaching experience to the program.

As Head Coach, Koehler is committed to creating an environment where every golfer can grow in skill, confidence, and character.
"I am grateful and blessed to be joining the Mullen Girls Golf Program," Koehler said. "Together we will build genuine relationships, foster a positive team culture, and pursue growth and excellence for every one of our student-athletes."

A Premier Girls Golf Program in Denver

Mullen High School's girls golf program offers student-athletes the opportunity to compete at a high level while receiving a college-preparatory, Lasallian Catholic education. Student-athletes benefit from experienced coaching, competitive schedules, personalized player development, and a community that values academic excellence as much as athletic success.

Whether a golfer is looking to compete for championships or continue playing at the collegiate level, Mullen provides an environment where students are challenged to reach their full potential in the classroom, on the course, and in life.

Mullen Athletics is excited to welcome Coach Koehler into his new role and looks forward to the continued growth of the girls golf program under his leadership. More importantly, the Mullen community is grateful that one of its most trusted mentors will continue shaping lives—one student, one round, and one relationship at a time.
