Mullen High School Cheer brings home a National Championship to Denver

by Patrick Motter, Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications
The Mullen Cheer Team just made history. Traveling to Orlando, FL, our Mustangs competed at the America's Cheerleading Cup National Championship (ACCNC), a premier end-of-season event hosted each year at the iconic Universal Orlando Resort. The two-day championship showcases high-level performances in a high-production venue, complete with championship rings, jackets, and national titles on the line.
And this year? Mullen Cheer left it all on the mat, bringing home a National Championship for the very first time in program history.

The Athletic Department summed it up best:
“For the FIRST TIME in program history, the cheer program is so proud and excited to bring home a National Title to Mullen. This season has been nothing short of incredible, and the victory has cemented the legacy of this amazing group of athletes. We will cherish this team and this moment forever!”

This championship didn’t just happen. It was built through early mornings, long practices, tough moments, and an unwavering belief in one another. Senior Fiona Lockheed ’26, who has proudly represented Mullen Cheer all four years, reflected on what set this team apart:
“This year we were ready to all work together and put in the work necessary to achieve success.”

Isabella Zigler ’26, now a two-year member of the program, shared how the team’s unity made the difference: “Even though we had some ups and downs, we came together as one and came out on top this season.” That unity, resilience, and heart defined this season — and ultimately made history.

As this special group of seniors prepares to graduate, they leave behind a powerful legacy. They’ve raised the bar, proven what’s possible, and shown future Mustangs what it means to compete with pride.

But the season isn’t over just yet.
Be sure to come out and support these National Champions as they cheer on our basketball teams during postseason play. Their energy in the gym is unmatched, and they bring the same passion to the sidelines that they brought to the national stage.

Interested in being part of something special? Tryouts are coming up this April! If you’d like to learn more, reach out to cheer@mullenhigh.com for information. For senior Maddie Bunn ’26, the win is about more than just a title; it’s about community. “Cheer helped me become involved and invested in the Mullen community. Joining a sport helped me grow both socially and academically.”
