“I was academically struggling, and mentally I was too,” Reagan says. “I started feeling like there was no hope for me to even graduate.”
Instead of accepting that situation, Reagan made a mature decision that would ultimately change her life. She began looking for a new environment, one that offered stronger support, a sense of community, and the opportunity for a fresh start.
When she visited Mullen High School, something immediately felt different. “I met some of the best people when I toured,” Reagan recalls. “It felt welcoming right away. I just knew Mullen was the right place for me.”
Her father, Bert Williams, remembers that moment clearly. “She walked into Mullen and it just felt like home,” he says. “We looked at several schools, but she knew right away that this was where she wanted to be.”
That feeling quickly became reality when Reagan completed the Admissions process and was accepted as a transfer student starting her junior year. From the moment Reagan became a Mustang, she was surrounded by teachers and staff who were invested in her success. “The support from the teachers was immediate,” she explains. “They truly wanted to help me succeed, and I had never experienced that level of care before.”
At Mullen, Reagan also discovered a faith-centered environment that helped strengthen the sense of community she had been searching for. The shared values and spiritual life at the school helped her feel connected in a new way. “I had never felt that kind of community around faith before,” she says. “Everyone supports each other here.”
Like many transfer students, Reagan initially wondered if it would be difficult to fit in socially. She quickly found welcoming friendships and a strong sense of belonging. “The students were incredibly welcoming,” she says. “I never once felt out of place.” Getting involved helped make that transition even smoother. Reagan joined the Mullen cheer team, where she formed close friendships and became part of a tight-knit group of teammates. The team went on to win a national championship, a moment she describes as one of the highlights of her high school experience.
Beyond friendships and activities, the biggest transformation came in Reagan’s academic confidence. The expectations at Mullen challenged her in new ways, but they also helped her develop the study habits and determination she needed to succeed. Her father believes that challenge was exactly what she needed. “She needed teachers who cared enough to push her,” he says. “The rigor at Mullen helped prepare her for what’s coming next.”
Today, Reagan is preparing for the next chapter of her life. She will attend the University of Mississippi to study education, inspired in part by the teachers who supported her during her time at Mullen.
Looking back, Reagan says transferring schools was one of the best decisions she ever made. “I went from doubting whether I would graduate to applying for college and planning my future,” she says. “Mullen helped me believe in myself again.” For students who may feel stuck or for families considering a new path, Reagan offers simple advice.
“It can feel scary to transfer,” she says. “But if you take that step, you’ll find your people and where you belong.”
Her story is a reminder that sometimes the right environment can unlock potential that students didn’t even realize they had. At Mullen High School, that environment—grounded in faith, community, and academic support—helps students not only succeed in school, but discover the path ahead.
