Mullen slips past Cherokee Trail.
Evan Malloy’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning on Saturday lifted Mullen to a 7-6 come-from-behind victory at home at Bill Swift Field against Cherokee Trail in the Centennial League.

It was Malloy’s third hit – as well as his second double -- and third run batted in as the Mustangs came back twice over the final two innings and scored six runs.

Mullen is 8-3 overall, 3-2 in league. Cherokee Trail, which made the Class 5A Championship Series a year ago is 4-6, 2-3.

Junior Jadin Tafoya had a two-run homer; Jack Vitry was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI; Alek Elges singled and scored as did Michael Stanford and Stephan Loya; and Nick Perri added a safety.

Freshman Trevor Moore pitched the first six innings for the Mustangs and senior Jayden Mayoral, who was touched for three runs in the top of the seventh, earned the victory.

The Mustangs have earned four victories in succession and will host rival Regis Jesuit (10-1) of the Continental League on Monday, 4:30 p.m., as part of a three game-week, weather permitting – the Mustangs will be at Cherokee Trail on Tuesday, 4:15 p.m., and at Arapahoe on Saturday, 11 a.m., both in league.
