Spring '19: New coach, new outlook

By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
Matt Cawley now in command.
Matt Cawley certainly has the enthusiasm of a first-year head coach at his alma mater.

“You know what, it has been awesome,” he said. “I can honestly say there was a little bit of doubt program-wide and what are we going to do, but we are off to the races and it’s great.”

Cawley and Mustangs boys lacrosse will be looking to the likes of Jack Berger, J.P. Starkey, Brandon Hane, Gage Gillis, Ethan Hart, Dominic Jablonsky and Willis Hanson to carry a lot of the load.

In goal, Mullen, which was a disappointing 4-11 a year ago and 3-4 in the Centennial League, has three players, Cawley said, “battling it out.”

The Mustangs are scheduled to open on Friday, March 8, against Wheat Ridge at Trailblazer Stadium, 3:30 p.m.

Potentially, Cawley said, “we’re a playoff team, but we’ll be Jekyll and Hyde, for sure.”
