A.J. Naha’s walk-off single capped a two-run rally on Thursday as the Mustangs downed visiting Mountain Range 4-3 in Class 5A nonleague play at Bill Swift Field.

Mullen moved to 9-6 overall and snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Mustangs trailed 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 and 3-2 before getting two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Nick Perri had a key double in the Mustangs’ last at-bat. Michael Brady had a triple and scored twice. Michael Stanford had two hits. Jack Vitry had a single and a run batted in, and Brennen Nolte added a single.

On the mound, senior Jayden Mayoral went the distance, allowing eight hits and three runs. He struck out five and walked one.

The Mustangs will resume Centennial League play on Saturday, when they will host Grandview at 11 a.m. They are halfway through the home-and-away league slate at 3-4.

In girls lacrosse, the Mustangs put up 11 goals in the first half and cruised to a 15-6 home victory over Arapahoe in the Centennial league.

Mullen moved to 7-5 overall, 4-1 in league. They have won four matches in succession.

Molly Gilbert and Emerson Johnson each scored four goals for the Mustangs. Elise Bialecki had three, and Olivia Moreno and Haley Vanek each had two. Grace Archibald and Gilbert added two assists apiece, Johnson and Vanek each had one.

The Mustangs’ third match in three days will be Friday, when they will host Overland in league, 6 p.m.

In girls tennis, Mullen grabbed a 4-3 decision of visiting Palmer Ridge.

The Mustangs were able to sweep at singles. At No. 1, sophomore Lauren Manwiller won in straight sets, but both were by tiebreaker, 7-4 and 11-9. Mikayla Phelps won at No. 2 and Megan Sandy won at No. 3.

The Mustangs’ No. 4 doubles team of Brooklyn Hanley-Parker Durand won by 7-5, 6-1 to secure the team match victory.

Mullen will wrap up its regular season on Friday, traveling to Columbine, 3:30 p.m., at Marker Park. It will host a 4A regional next week.

In girls golf, Sofia Choi shot 4-over-par 76 to finish fourth in the Centennial League Match No. 4 held at Broken Tee G.C.

Here round included four birdies, two on each side.

As a team, Mullen was fifth of six teams, finishing at plus-100.

Cherry Creek won the team title at plus-21 and the match’s top finisher was Emma Bryant of Eaglecrest, the 2018 5A medalist, at minus-2
