Mustangs ground Air Academy

It was a decisive first step.

Mullen boys tennis took out Air Academy on Thursday, a 7-0 sweep in a Class 4A nonleague dual match to open 2019.

The Mustangs rolled by a composite 84-17 in games, 36-4 in singles, in a head-to-head meeting originally scheduled for the Air Force Academy that was switched to Pinehurst Country Club..

Mac Caldwell, George Henry Hanzel and Dante Dino were Mullen singles winners; J.P. Starkey-Tanner Amman, Coleman Guthrie-Jack Barker (freshman’s first prep match), Luc Caldwell-Kevin McGuire, and Charlie Manta-Greg McMullan handled doubles.

A busy week awaits the Mustangs. There will be at dual at nearby Colorado Academy on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 3:30 p.m.; another dual home against D’Evelyn on Thursday, Aug. 29; and a tournament up north, the Longmont Round Robin, on Friday, Aug. 30, beginning 9 a.m.
