Mustangs split a DH against Creek

Mullen drops opener 12-2, rallies to take 2nd game 7-4; team awaits seeding on Sunday for 3 rounds of league tourney for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
 
GREENWOOD VILLAGE -- Mullen split a doubleheader on Saturday against Cherry Creek to complete the regular schedule of its season modified by the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Competing home at Village Greens, the Mustangs dropped the opener 12-2 in 6 innings and earned a 7-4 victory in Game 2.

The Mustangs are 4-9 overall, 4-8 in league.

In Game 1, the Bruins (5-8, 4-8) broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run fourth inning and added four more in the sixth. They outhit the Mustangs 10-4 and Mullen was guilty of three errors.

Elizabeth Brady, Ona Medina, Avery Panozzo and Avery Walters hit safely for Mullen, all singles.

In Game 2, Mullen erased a 4-2 deficit by scoring in each of its final three at-bats, including a 3-spot in the fifth.

Panozzo had two hits, knocked in a run and scored three times. Brady also scored twice.
Brady, Ona Medina, Morgan Margeson, Walters, Bella Aragon and Romie Gutierrez had hits for Mullen. Medina, Walters and Brady added RBIs.

Margeson, who took the pitching loss in the first game, got the victory in Game 2.
Cherry Creek committed five errors.

Mullen finished sixth in league and awaits seeding for games on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Seeding is to be released Sunday morning.
