Brady, Mullen blast Grandview
Infielder goes for three hits and 4 RBIs as Mullen wins 13-8 at Grandview in Aurora; 'Stangs win 3rd straight and are 6-3.
AURORA – Mullen is emerging.
The Mustangs, who had been going through the .500 doldrums, won their third consecutive game on Wednesday by shelling host Grandview 13-8 in the Centennial League.
In improving to 6-3 overall and in league, the Mustangs banged out 10 hits, six for extra bases, had two five-run innings, and won going away despite being hit for a four-run seventh inning by the Wolves (7-4, 6-4). And it was a key, second-consecutive victory for the Mustangs over historically good Grandview, particularly in this new, shortened Season D. Mullen is a game and a half behind Centennial-leading Cherry Creek and one in back of Cherokee Trail.
By plating five runs in the third and the fifth, Mullen had a long list of contributors. Andrew Brady had two doubles, scored twice, three hits and drove home four. Sage Hurley had a double, a walk and three runs batted in. Owen Marsh belted a home run, a single, walked, scored twice and recorded two RBIs.
Henry Stewart had two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Trevor Moore was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
On the mound, Moore was roughed up a bit for four earned runs, three hits and four walks in three innings, but Kyle Muhal and Marsh, who was touched for the four runs in the final inning, kept Grandview chasing.
Mullen will have its heat turned up a bit – the Mustangs will be at Smoky Hill on Saturday, May 29, 11 a.m., before embarking on a four game week. In all, they have seven games to play over the next 15 days to complete the regular season.
