Junior belts a homer and pitches well to douse Lightning as 'Stangs grab ninth victory in a row; important win will be followed by need for another -- home game on Thursday against Arapahoe could clinch share of league title.

BROOMFIELD – In its sixth game over 11 days, Mullen continued as hot as the recent weather.
The Mustangs won their ninth in a row, a nonleaguer on the road. They handled Legacy 5-2 to improve to 12-3 overall to gain valuable RPI points and further cement their standing as one of the teams to beat as the Class 5A playoffs approach.
Junior Trevor Moore was terrific, going six innings on the mound to earn the victory and ripping a two-run home run. The Stanford commit also walked none and struck out five. Owen Marsh, who also belted a two-run homer, pitched the seventh, giving up a run on a hit and two walks, and he struck out three.
In all, Mullen had seven hits. Sage Hurley had two of them as well as the team’s other RBI. Andres Terrones-Garcia, Henry Stewart and Andrew Brady also safely. Brady,. Stewart and Colin MacKenzie added runs scored.
The Mustangs also realize what’s at stake soon – they will host Arapahoe on Thursday, June 10. If they beat the Warriors, who downed the Mustangs 4-3 on May 19, they will earn a share of the Centennial League championship, their first since 2016.
First pitch at Bill Swift Field will be at 4:15 p.m.
