Mullen boys hoops thisclase in 66-64 loss; wrestlers, behind O'Blia and Valdez-Lemos, grab 3rd at Bear Creek tourney; ice hockey falls on road in Colorado Springs.

Trailing by 13 points early in the fourth quarter, Mullen rallied but never quite got past Grandview in losing 66-64 on Saturday in the Centennial League.

A sixth consecutive setback has the Mustangs at 6-11 overall, 1-7 in league.

Generally, it was close throughout as the Mustangs came alive in the final minutes. However, they missed numerous opportunities to tie or take the lead as turnovers and missed free throws (10 for the game) kept them chasing.

Mullen also rebounded after a missed free throw by Grandview (5-12, 3-5) in the final seconds, but was unable to squeeze off a shot.

“We had our chances,” Mustangs head coach Bob Caton said. “But it is what it is … we’ll be back at it.”

Josh Lopez (14 points), Micah Leslie (10), Ethan Heffern (nine) and Hunter Lay (eight) headed Mullen scoring.
