ATHLETIC WEEKLY ROUNDUP
WEEK OF JANUARY 15 THROUGH JANUARY 20
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL 
● On January 17th the Mullen Mustangs played host to the Overland Trailblazers in a conference matchup.  Freshman Makenzie Jones led the way with 18-pts. Allison Schwertner and Tatum Jones chipped in with 10-pts a piece. The Mustangs won, running away, 69-40. A couple days later on January 19, the Lady Stangs’ traveled to take on the Cherry Creek Bruins.  They fell 52-42 to the Bruins to even their conference record to 1-1. They take on Smoky Hill on Tuesday, January 23 at Smoky. 
BOYS’ BASKETBALL 
● On January 17th, The Mullen Boys’ Basketball team took on the Trailblazers of Overland High School. The Mustangs fell 67-59. Mason Bonner had another double double with 15 pts and 14 boards. Jordan Leslie added 13 pts. Later in the week the Boys’ hit the road to take on the Cherry Creek Bruins. Mullen went down 71-48 and fell to 0-2 in league play. They look to get back on the winning track against Smoky Hill on Tuesday night at Smoky. 
HOCKEY 
● Last week, The Mullen Mustangs Hockey team took on Colorado Academy and fell 8-0.  They next traveled to Crested Butte on Saturday where they went down 6-3. The Mustangs look to bounce back into the win column on 1/26 against Summit in Breckenridge. 
GIRLS' SWIM & DIVE
Sophomore swimmer, Sally Kohara, qualified for the 4A State Championships in the 500 Freestyle in Mullen's latest swim meet at Arapahoe last Wednesday.
BOYS’ WRESTLING 
● At the Husky Tournament in Kansas, The Mullen wrestlers showed out. At 113 lbs. Antonio Herrera secured a 3rd place finish. At 120 lbs. Dale O'Blia dominated the competition, winning 1st place and being named Outstanding Wrestler. At 138 lbs. Gilbert Antillon battled hard for a 2nd place finish. At 150 lbs. Cooper Loth placed 6th in a tough weight class. At 157 lbs. Isaak Chavez dominated his way to a 1st place victory. At 165 lbs. Christopher Smith and Estevan Loya both earned 6th place finishes. At 190 lbs. Oliver Scelza put up a valiant effort to secure 4th place. At 215 lbs. Amani Fuqua wrestled well for a 7th place finish. At 285 lbs. Champion Dyes and Caleb VanMeter secured 3rd and 9th place finishes, respectively! 
GIRLS’ WRESTLING 
● Mullen High School's girls wrestling team tore up the competition at the recent DPI Girls Wrestling Invitational, bringing home four individual first-place finishes and showcasing their amazing talent and dedication.  Here's a quick recap of their impressive showing.  At 105 lbs, Cassandra Linhardt dominated her weight class, clinching 1st place.  At 115 lbs.  Angelica Silva wrestled tough, securing a well-deserved 4th-Place finish.  At 145 lbs. both Skye Muzar and Araya Gonzales tied for 1st-Place in the 145-pound division demonstrating the depth of Mullen's talent.  At 170 lbs. Jzunie Jones took home 1st-Place in the 170-pound category.  Her teammate, Maggie Martinez, also put on a stellar performance earning a strong 2nd-Place finish.
