Mullen High School in Denver, CO is proud to announce that longtime social studies teacher and transformative Lasallian leader Tammy Christensen has been named a 2025 Distinguished Lasallian Educator (DLE) by the District of San Francisco New Orleans (SFNO). Christensen will be celebrated at the Distinguished Lasallian Educator ceremony on November 20, 2025, during the Huether Lasallian Conference in St. Louis, MO.
For Mullen, this recognition is more than an award, it is a celebration of a powerhouse educator whose life’s work has shaped generations of Mustangs.
A Legacy of Passion, Zeal, and Service
In announcing the SFNO honorees, Michael Daniels, director of the Office of Education, described Christensen with clarity and admiration:
“Passion and zeal define Tammy Christensen’s vocation as an educator. Her classroom becomes a training ground for civic engagement. At Mullen, she partners with local organizations, inviting students to step beyond themselves and into lives of service. Her witness ignites in students and colleagues a living expression of the Lasallian mission.”
For more than three decades, Christensen has lived those words. Since joining the Mullen faculty in 1997, she has taught U.S. Government, U.S. History, and World History. But her impact has reached far beyond lesson plans and textbooks.
A Force in—and Beyond—the Classroom
Christensen embodies the Lasallian mission of faith, service, and community with remarkable authenticity. Her achievements include:
Department Chair of Social Studies, elevating academic excellence across the curriculum.
Moderator of Mullen’s award-winning Mock Trial teams, including a 2025 Colorado State Championship. Christensen is often found in the classroom/courtroom after school, passionately coaching students as they prepare to defend their title.
Leader of numerous El Otro Lado immersion trips, helping students explore justice issues, migration, service, and solidarity.
Guide for global education and humanitarian work, taking students on historical tours through Poland and serving communities in Togo—experiences that have left lasting impact both abroad and at Mullen.
Students and colleagues often speak of Christensen’s unwavering belief in young people and her insistence that they discover their voice, pursue justice, and engage deeply with the world.
Yet, as those who know her best will attest, her most profound influence unfolds quietly, behind the scenes, walking beside those who need encouragement, reminding them that their presence matters.
A Living Expression of Lasallian Education
Christensen’s tireless dedication mirrors the very heart of St. John Baptist de La Salle’s mission. She builds relationships, fosters community, and lights the spark of lifelong servant-leadership in her students.
Whether guiding a Mock Trial team deep into evidence rules, leading a conversation about democracy, accompanying students across international borders, or comforting a student who simply needs someone to believe in them, Tammy lives the mission every day.
Honoring a True Mustang Leader
The Distinguished Lasallian Educator Award, given annually to educators in the Lasallian Region of North America, recognizes individuals who exemplify the vision and virtues of the Founder. In Tammy Christensen, that vision is not only honored, it is embodied.
Mullen High School offers its heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Tammy Christensen for her steadfast commitment to our students, our community, and our Lasallian identity. Her legacy continues to inspire, uplift, and shape future generations of Mustangs.
Congratulations, Tammy!
