Boys Lacrosse

In Highlands Ranch, Mullen’s bid to arise from the winless came up short in overtime.

The Mustangs fell 11-10 to host ThunderRidge in nonleague at Halftime Help Stadium.

Mullen dipped to 0-5.
First-year coach Mullen Jeremy Phelps said the Grizzlies “did the little things better than us,” and the Mustangs frequently hurt themselves.

Phelps gave lots of credit to Brady Judd for his faceoff work and added Talon Penrod and Nate Jackson were huge in the fourth quarter.,

Next for Mullen is another nonleaguer, Wednesday, March 29, vs. Chatfield, 6 p.m., at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.

Wrestling

In Virginia Beach, Va., the Mustangs had two wrestlers get through the first three rounds of the National High School Coaches Association Championships.

Three-time Colorado champion Dale O’Blia, third a year ago here, was 3-0 at 113 pounds and Isaak Chavez was 3-0 at 138.

Sophomore 106-pounder Tony Herrera lost in the first round and will participate in Saturday’s wrestlebacks.

O’Blia and Chavez, a freshman, will need two victories on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s championship bouts.
