Zingler shoots 68, wins Bruins Invitational; girls tennis wins 8th consecutive dual meet.

The weather was nice, the course is getting into shape and Kaitlin Zingler took full advantage.

The Mullen senior turned in six birdies on Monday to fire a 3-under-par 68 and win the Bruin Invitational hosted by Cherry Creek at CommonGround Golf Course.

A University of Denver signee, Zingler had three birdies on each side, opened with a 1-under 35 and came home in 2-under 33 to win by a stroke.

Zingler birdied Nos. 1, 3, 7, 10, 14 and 18. She was one of three players to shoot under par.

For teams, Mullen scored 233 behind winner Valor Christian (221) and runner-up Mountain Vista (231). There were 17 teams in the field.

Also for the Mustangs, Sammy Yates (80) tied for 14th, Jane Gray (85) tied for 24th and May Myles (94) tied for 37th.

The Mustangs will be in the third Centennial League Tournament on Thursday, April 20, at Aurora Hills G.C., first tee shots at 10 a.m.

Girls Tennis

At home at Pinehurst Country Club, the Mustangs won their eighth consecutive dual meet, 4-3 over Chatfield in nonleague.

Lexi Yost (No. 1) and Lilly Evans (No. 2) won in singles for Mullen. Clara Dailey-Claire Lenich (No. 2) and Anna Lawrence-Maisie McMorrow (No. 3) won in doubles.

Mullen will return to Centennial League play on Tuesday, April 18, against Arapahoe, 3:45 p.m., for a dual meet. It will add two more later this week to complete the regular season.
