For Those Who Labor
As we head into Labor Day Weekend, I am aware - perhaps this week more than ever - of what a blessing it is to have a vocation and to be able to work. As I was looking for a reflection this week, this one seemed most appropriate: Creator Lord, the source of all wisdom and purpose, and the blessing of those who labor; be with us in our work to guide and govern our world. Give to all people work that enhances human dignity and bonds us to one another. Give us pride in our work, a fair return for our labor, and joy in knowing that our work finds its source in you; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
Calendar
Events around the school are, sometimes, more fluid than I would like them to be and there have been some early year changes to our calendar. A new PDF version of the 2019-2020 calendar is available on the website for those of you who would like to print it. I suggest that the website is the best place for up-to-date information about what is happening in any given day or week. Also, be sure you follow us on social media! Those posts are not only up-to-date, they are up-to-the-minute!

Retreats, Service, Fall Sports and Activities
Fall activities, retreats, service opportunities and sports are in full gear and our students are heavily involved, learning and growing and representing the school incredibly well. We have concluded our Freshman Retreats and, having participated in each, I can tell you that they are wonderful experiences! We have begun our Freshman Service trips. Auditions for the fall play have come and gone. Fall sports have taken the field and the pitches and the courts and our student athletes are doing us proud in the gold and blue. Thursday night was the opening game of the varsity football schedule! So recently it seemed like we were just starting to get back in the swing of things. Now it seems like we are in the thick of them. I love this time of year!

Reminder...
There remains one loose end from our pizza lunch issues from the first day of school that I’d like to tie up. Please email me (jeff.howard@mullenhigh.com) to let me know if your student paid for lunch last Thursday. We would like to reimburse you that charge. Thank you very much!

Back2School Night Wrap Up
Thank you to all who attended this week’s Back2School Night! We had a wonderful crowd who got to experience their students’ schedules and meet their teachers. I am grateful to all who were able to come and I hope it was a terrific night for you. I know that our faculty enjoy getting to put parents with students, to see old friends and to make new ones.

Raising Healthy Teens
Tuesday night marked the first in our series of Raising Healthy Teens opportunities as our Counseling and Pastoral Departments presented 1st Year Parents and Lasallian Catholic 101 - Freshman Parent Night. Raising Healthy Teens is an offering designed to inform and support the community on current issues facing our students. Upcoming offerings include a talk on vaping and one on mental health. I am grateful to the Mullen folks who are putting these on and am hopeful you can attend! Please see the website for further information.

Three Day Weekend
I hope everyone has great weekends and that our students have a chance to reflect on these first few weeks of the year, to congratulate themselves for their efforts thus far and to look ahead to the coming weeks with confidence and optimism!
