Emergency Remote Learning Week FOUR - Hope Is Not Cancelled
Whew! We communicated A LOT this week because we had a lot of important things to say. With the announcements about our Emergency Remote Learning Plan and End of the Year Events that went to the whole community this week and our message to the Class of 2020 about Service Learning (more on that below) that they received, you might think I would be all “worded out.”
I almost am… but I do have a few brief comments this week.
As I noted above, earlier this week, we communicated to the seniors and their families about the Service Learning Program. We have made emergency adjustments to our Service Learning requirements this trimester and they only apply to the Class of 2020. All other classes will operate under the published requirements for Service Learning or any updates that follow. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Dougherty for her work and commitment to Service Learning as she upholds the value of this critical part of who we are.
We have communicated about many of our end of the year plans and more decisions remain to be made. Each day, it seems, there is another question about how we will do something as we approach May. We will address each issue as it arises and, please know, we are doing our best to be proactive about these things. The challenge is we are very much in a reactive position right now. We don’t know exactly what conditions will be for anything we plan in the coming weeks and months and we have to be highly flexible.
This entire situation has given new meaning to letting go and letting God. There is some real peace found there.
The first self-directed day is next Friday, April 24, 2020.
As we look to the end of the year, please note that the last day of Emergency Remote Learning for the Class of 2020 is Thursday, May 14, 2020 and the last day of Emergency Remote Learning for the rest of the school is Friday, May 22, 2020. Though this is a Self-Directed Day as outlined this week in our updated plans, this will be a day that may be used for meetings with teachers, final assessment turning in and the like.
