By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
Mullen erupts for a 10-run 5th in 11-0 pasting of Eaglecrest; Trevor Moore, Colin MacKenzie each go deep in 11-hit attack.

Fresh from a stinging loss, Mullen broke out in a big way on Friday.

The Mustangs erupted for a 10-run fifth inning to blast Eaglecrest 11-1 in Centennial League play at Bill Swift Field.

Mullen moved to 4-3 overall and in league. Eaglecrest is 4-4. 3-4.

After Wednesday’s 4-3 setback to Arapahoe on Wednesday in which the Mustangs felt they let a victory get away, they responded.

Leading just 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, they plated 10 runs. Among the highlights were wrap-around home runs. Colin MacKenzie ripped a two-run shot to get the scoring going and Trevor Moore’s opposite-field, three-run homer to right field ended it.

All told, eight Mustangs hit safely. Andres Terrones-Garcia, Andrew Brady and MacKenzie each had two. Sage Hurley, Ben Krza, Moore, Luca Maffoni and Owen Marsh each had one. Krza, Maffoni and MacKenzie all scored twice. MacKenzie (four), Moore (three) Terrones-Garcia (two) and Marsh accounted for the RBI parade.

The pace will quicken with another three game week for the Mustangs. They will host Grandview on Monday, May 24, 4:15 p.m.; be at Grandview for the back-to-back on Wednesday, May 26, 4:15 p.m.; and a road game at Smoky Hill on Saturday, May 29, 11 a.m. The ensuing week will involve a four-game set.
