Teachers are Angels Mural added to Sister Brendan Memorial Garden

by Kate Gojkovich, Chief of Staff
On April 23, 2021 Mullen High School celebrated the official unveiling of “Visible Angels”, a mural by renowned Denver street artist and Mullen swim coach, Austin Zucchini-Fowler. In partnership with Mullen’s Development Department, the event was attended by donors and members of the Mullen Board of Trustees. The mural was designed to honor the incredible faculty and staff at Mullen High School.
Zucchini-Fowler came to prominence when our Denver community needed his color the most - at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His mural “Healthcare Heros” located near downtown Denver was a nod to the frontline healthcare workers fighting the virus and features a medical professional in scrubs sporting angel’s wings and boxing gloves. His work has been recognized nationwide - The New York Times, ABC, NBC, Fox and even a news outlet in Italy were touched by his mural and wanted to share it with the world. After garnering recognition abroad, his online account has been viewed by more than 1,000,000 people.

The mural at Mullen is designed to stand the test of time and honor those faculty and staff who have reflected the life and mission of St. John Baptist de La Salle. Through our school’s Lasallian charisms, they have been able to persevere through an international pandemic, all while maintaining the level of grace and educational excellence for which our Lasallian school is known. Global pandemic or not, we are, and always will be, Mullen.
