Senior Gracie Gallegos commits to Tritons; 2-way guard topped 'Stangs in scoring on the way to a 3rd straight title.

It will be the University of California-San Diego for Gracie Gallegos.

The Mullen senior announced her commitment to Tritons women’s basketball recently, the Mustangs’ third commitment early for their Class of 2022. She joins Chase Davison, swimming, Texas, and Trevor Moore, baseball, Stanford.

“She’s happy and it will be good,” Mustangs head coach Frank Cawley said.

A 6-foot guard, Gallegos has been a key part of Mullen’s past three Colorado titles in Class 4A. A starter since her freshman season, Gallegos has been stellar defensively, almost always guarding the opposing teams’ top player.

Offensively, she has emerged as a scoring force. She has jumped from 5.9 points per game as a freshman to 10.2 as a sophomore to 16.4 as a junior, when she led the team and developed into one of the state’s better perimeter shooters. She shot 59 percent from the floor and 85 percent from the free-throw line.

The Titans coach is Heidi Vanderveer, sister of Tara Vanderveer, head coach of regular power and defending national champion Stanford.
