Moore listed among national elite

Senior Trevor Moore listed by MaxPreps and Collegiate Baseball as one of the top U.S. schoolboys; Stanford signee will lead Mustangs in preseason practice on Feb. 28.

Trevor Moore has gained significant notice leading to the upcoming baseball season.

The Mustangs senior has been recognized by both MaxPreps and Collegiate Baseball.

Named as the top player in Colorado in a state-by-state listing by MaxPreps, an online service used nationally, Moore, a shortstop-pitcher, is regarded as “a hitting and pitching standout. Moore earned all-state honors last year. He batted .385 with three home runs and went 5-1 on the mound with 43 strikeouts.”

The Stanford signee, who also helped lead the Mustangs to a tie for the Centennial League championship as well as a playoff berth as a junior, also is included by the respected Collegiate Baseball. In a listing of top players by state, he’s with 11 other elite in-staters.

First-year Mullen head coach Phil Stanford isn’t surprised.

“I think he’s being recognized as a guy who works hard,” Stanford said. “For four years in high school, it’s tireless the amount of effort he puts into his game. He works on the mound and at his position, and (the listings are) a fair representation of his skill in the game.

“He’s a special player and we knew he was a special player when he came here … but it has been fun to watch him grow. It’s exciting.”

The 2022 season will begin on Feb. 28.
