Mullen girls fall 15-7 at Air Academy in nonleague; Vanek gets 4 goals.

AIR FORCE ACADEMY – Mullen dropped its season opener in girls lacrosse on Saturday morning, 15-7 to host Air Academy in nonleague.

The Mustangs, who had their scheduled opener against Heritage the past Thursday postponed to later next month because of inclement weather, were without three regulars over the spring-break week, according to head coach Melynda Brown.

“It was a good show considering we had a few things working against us,” she said, also pointing to her team’s inexperience.

“Our players did great. We made adjustments and played better in the second half … we have a lot of midfield work to get to before our next game, but we are up to the task and will get back to work on Monday with our new outlook on what we have and where we want to get to.”

Haley Vanek scored four goals for Mullen. Ela Palmer had two and Charlie Beck one. Vanek and Jordan Weber had assists.

Mullen will resume play on Thursday, March 24, at home against Chaparral, 6 p.m.
