Blowing' in the wind -- Girls soccer loses league opener to Grandview; girls tennis must wait another day to complete a match at Arapahoe.
A second-half rally in annoying winds helped make Mullen a loser in its Centennial League opener.
On Tuesday, the Mustangs fell 3-0 to visiting Grandview.
Mullen is 3-3 overall, 0-1 in league.
In the face of powerful winds that made conditions unreasonable, the Mustangs, after a 0-0 stalemate in the fist half, also gave up a goal on a penalty kick and another off a direct kick.
“The girls played well,” Mustangs head coach Matt Degitis said.
Junior Keelee Rakowski said “today was frustrating. We lost, but I thought we were really in the game.”
Next for the Mustangs is a league match on Thursday, April 7, against Cherry Creek, 6 p.m., at the Stutler Bowl in Greenwood Village.

High winds also made conditions for Mullen girls tennis too difficult – the Mustangs, leading host Arapahoe 4-2 in league, will have to wait until Wednesday to complete the match.
The Mustangs will be at Cherry Creek in Greenwood Village on Thursday, April 7, 3:45 p.m., in Greenwood Village in league.
