'Stangs stand 6th through 2 days

Mullen girls will have two lines playing for championships and another going for third place, all in doubles, in the final day (Saturday) in Class 4A Colorado tennis.
 
Mullen girls may not be able to defend their team championship, but they are going out swinging their racquets.

Through two days of the Class 4A Tournament at Pueblo City park, the Mustangs will have two spots in Saturday finals, both in doubles, and have another doubles team playing for third place.

Teamwise, they are in sixth place with 28 points. Cheyenne Mountain has a commanding 57, followed by Kent Denver and Palmer Ridge (41), Pine Creek (35) and Niwot (32).

As for line championships, Mullen’s No. 2 doubles of Aubryanne Leugers-Renee Hoyt will take on Katrina Weiskircher-Ulla Schultz of Palmer Ridge.

And the Mustangs’ No. 4 doubles of Avery Walters-Grace Brouillette will face Cora Goodwin-Juliya Yuskiv also of Palmer Ridge.

In playbacks, Mullen’s No. 3 doubles of Clara Dailey-Claire Lenich will meet Bella Prohs-Miranda Spooner of Thompson Valley for third place.

Play is set to begin at 9 a.m.

Madeline Crites-Paige Nielsen lost 6-0, 6-1.

No. 2 doubles – Aubryanne Leugers-Renee Hoyt won 6-4, 7-5.

No. 3 doubles – Clara Dailey-Claire Lenich lost 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.

No. 4 doubles – Avery Walters, Grace Brouillette won 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

PLAYBACKS

No. 1 singles – Lexi Yost won 7-5, 6-4 in first round; lost 3-6, 3-6 in second round.
