'Stangs headed to another final 4

Mullen takes out Pueblo Centennial to advance to the semifinals; team bidding for a 2nd consecutive 4A finale.
 
It’s on to the semifinals for Mullen.

The Mustangs got two goals from Matt Boberg in rolling to a 5-1 home victory over Pueblo Centennial in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs.

Now 13-3-2, Mullen, the No. 20 seed, will take on No. 16 Battle Mountain in the semis at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

The Mustangs have won three consecutive playoff games and seven of their past eight. Runners-up in 2021, Mullen is on a five-match roll and hasn’t lost since Oct. 13.

Boberg’s goals were his second and third of the season. The senior midfielder was joined in scoring by Ethan Lehman, Finn Dugan and Cayden Robbins.

Lehman also had two assists. Alex Evans, Jaycee Campos and Nate Muir added helpers.

No. 28 Pueblo Centennial ended 14-4.

Battle Mountain is 12-4-2.

The other semifinal, to be played at 5:30 p.m., is defending state champion and No. 2 Northfield (15-1-1) vs. No. 16 Summit (13-3-2).
