Young But Hungry

AM: What are your expectations for the upcoming season? 

MD: “We are relatively young; however, we have had a competitive preseason and I think we will  surprise a couple teams. Our primary goal is continued development. We would like to fight our  way into the playoffs and have a chance at the title, but we will need a handful of things to go  right. Ultimately, I want us to work hard, get experience, and get organized!” 

MD: “We had a great run into the semifinals last year. The last couple of seasons have left a  strong legacy, and we want to continue to honor that. We have very few players remaining from  those years, so I think our main goal is to continue to build on what they have brought back to  Mullen soccer.” 

MD: “Both of our defensive midfielders Jaycee Campos and Roman Cedillo were instrumental to  our success last year, and we are fortunate to have both of them back. We just need them to step  up as leaders in the program. Additionally, we are fortunate for the return of Ethan Muller (sr.)  who played a couple years ago and is now back. His energy is incredibly impactful on the  program and the kid just grinds. He's awesome. Lastly, our Junior goalkeeper, Ethan  DesMarteau, who took over the number one spot this year has just been on fire.” 

MD: “Our big rival over the last couple of years has been Northfield. They beat us in the final two years ago and then last year under contentious circumstances. Finally, they are coming to us, and  we'll see how we fare. We are also playing a foundation game against Regis on OCT. 23. That  will be an exciting Catholic Clash.” 

MD: We are young, eager to learn, and scrappy as heck. 

MD: “We fought through a lot of adversity last year and we sustained a lot of pressure.  Philosophically, these things are very important to Mullen soccer. We are prepared to suffer and  defend; we never feel like we are out of any game.” 

MD: “We try to pursue all the principles; however, our program is very inclusive (we often  include both sides) and we offer training for players of all levels. We believe we can make you a  better player at Mullen, and we are willing to put in the time to get you there. The players just  need to buy in!” 

“The Boys’ soccer team at Mullen fought through a lot of adversity last year but ended the season  in the State semi-finals. This season the young and scrappy bunch are prepared to suffer in  order to get to where they want. What they want is a deep run in the playoffs that ends with a state championship.”
