Five of Mullen's eight boys advance to the 3A quarterfinals; both girls head into consolations.
Led by two-time-defending champion Dale O’Blia, Mullen advanced five of its eight boys wrestlers to Friday’s quarterfinals in the Colorado wrestling tournament at Ball Arena.
In Thursday’s preliminaries, O’Blia was joined in the second round after victories by Tony Herrera, Gilbert Antillon, Isaak Chavez and Kaleb Valdez-Lemos.
At 113, O’Blia, who won the past two seasons at 106 pounds in Class 3A, advanced with a pin in 3 minutes, 25 seconds.
Herrera (106), won by technical fall; Antillon (126) advanced by decision; Chavez was victorious by major decision; and Valdez-Lemos, a runnerup a year ago, also was a winner by fall.
The Mustangs also stood eighth in the team chase with 16.5 points.
For girls, both Karin Simons (155) and Jzunie Jones (170) ofmthe Mustangs were pinned in the first round.
Friday’s action will have quarterfinals 8:30 a.m. to noon; consolations immediately after; semifinals at 6:30 p.m.; consolations at 7:15 p.m.
