'Stangs spank Cougars

Behind a 14-hit attack, Mullen wins 12-4 at Cherokee Trail to move to 10-6 in 2023.

Mullen erupted for 14 hits on Monday in taking a 12-5 decision at Cherokee Trail in Aurora in the Centennial League.

The Mustangs moved to 10-6 overall, 4-2 in league and continued to encourage head coach Phil Stanford.

“My team is doing a lot of good things,” Stanford said, adding his players “are starting to understand.”

Now on a four-game roll, Mullen scored in six-of-seven innings, never trailed, had five players wjth two-or-more hits and wasn’t hurt by its three errors.

Leadoff Dom Gamueda was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Colin Mackenzie had three hits, Thoams Stewart had two hits and three RBIs, Ryan Jackson drove home two, and Ben Krza and Sage Hurley each had two safeties.

Jackson earned the pitching victory and Mackenzie finished the last three innings.

The Mustangs will host Eaglecrest on Tuesday, May 2, Senior Day, 4:15 p.m., to begin a busy stretch. T will be the final, regular Centennial game. On Thursday, May 4, the Mustangs will be at Pine Creek in Colorado Springs in nonleague,4 p.m., then head into the league tournament May 6, 9 and 13 before finishing with Arvada West on May 15.
