Still shuffling for position in the Class 4A playoffs, Mullen’s final push included a 7-0 victory over Arvada West on Monday at Bill Swift Field.
The nonleague triumph pushed the Mustangs to a 13-9 mark and they landed a 23rd regular-season game – they will host Doherty on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Mullen head coach Phil Stanford was pleased after losing a game the past Friday at Far Northeast and replacing it with the Spartans.
On Monday, the Mustangs got doubles from Ryan Jackson, Gus Peonio, Ryan Brady and Dom Gamueda. Gamueda had three of Mullen’s 10 hits and Thomas Stewart had two.
Peonio had two runs batted in and Gamueda, Stewart, Jackson and Andres Bertaud each had one.
Stewart earned the victory, going four innings, and combined with Colin Mackenzie for the shutout.
