Slammers South, headed by Mark Holzemer and Clint Zavaras, will have Orioles prospect among instructors at off-season gathering.

Slammers Baseball will host a catching camp this weekend involving multiple Mullen alumni, including Baltimore Orioles prospect Maverick Handley.

At Slammers South, 12000 E. Easter Ave., Englewood, approximately 80 hopefuls will be in attendance Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.

Handley, who starred at Mullen and Stanford before being drafted by the Orioles, will be among the instructors.

“He has helped us since his college days,” said Clint Zavaras, who led the Mustangs to a Colorado championship in 1985 before pitching in the major leagues.

Zavaras, part owner of Slammers, said the field had to be capped because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but the event should go off as planned.

Slammers president of baseball and softball is Mark Holzemer, another Mullen graduate who pitched in the majors.
