Connor Warren, Student-Athlete of the Week

High-school sports: Football (linebacker, all-Class 5A Jefferson County League second team) and lacrosse (midfielder).

What I’ve done lately:
Had a goal and two assists as the Mustangs downed Santa Fe Christian, the No. 3 team in California, on a trip during spring break.

Grade-point average:
4.47.

Class:
Senior.

Why I attend Mullen:
So I went to Mullen’s football youth camp in seventh and eighth grade and it was just awesome. I loved it. The players were awesome and the coaches were awesome. It was like they wanted me there. It was still a high-academic school and that made my decision easy.

The best thing about my sport:
In football, I love, obviously, the mental aspect – everyone has to do their job perfectly to have a chance at success and just the pure athleticism involved. Plus, the work that goes into it … the payout is really satisfying.

In my future:
I’m going to Carnegie Mellon University (in Pittsburgh) to study business finance and play football.

Pre-Game ritual:
Before every game I listen to the same playlist, about 20 songs or so. I just try not to think too much about the game. I just think about my role. If I think too much, it’s overwhelming. I just visualize my job.

Favorite college team:
Duke football.

Why I play:
It’s a great form of release. Honestly, exercise is great for you, but, mentally, with school and everything, it gets to be a lot. But having those couple of hours to play and compete with your best friends and getting to play a game – that’s the reason I play.
