Mullen whips Tigers 69-22 in 4A Sweet 16

By Neil H. Devlin, Mullen Sports Information Director
No. 4 Mustangs' defense is large as team wins 11th consecutive playoff game and advances to Monday's Great 8 home game against No. 5 Falcon.

Mullen’s defense continues to dominate.

The Mustangs held Canon City to single-digit scoring in each quarter on Thursday night in rolling to a 69-22 crushing of Canon City at Hutchison Fieldhouse. They have permitted only 52 points over eight postseason quarters, seven of which their opponents have failed to score 10-or-more points.

In winning their 11th consecutive playoff game, the Mustangs won the Class 4A Sweet 16 matchup after a slower start before taking command in the second quarter.

Mullen improved to 14-2 and won its eighth straight game this season.

Mustangs junior Gracie Gallegos led all scorers with 21 points. Of eight other teammates who scored, senior Alexa Dominguez added 12 points.

The Tigers, champions of the Colorado Springs Metro-South League, ended 11-3 and had won 10 of their previous 11 games.

In advancing to 4A’s Great 8, Mullen, the No. 4 seed, will host Falcon, the No. 5 seed, on Monday at The Hutch, 5 p.m. The game was moved from Saturday because of the heavy-snow forecast.
