Yost, girls tennis win first dual of 2022; Rich, girls soccer level mark at 2-2 with a road shutout.
 
The defending Class 4A champion Mullen girls won their opening dual meet of 2022 on Wednesday 6-1 over visiting Columbine.

The Mustangs won all three singles matches and three of the four in doubles on the tennis courts at Pinehurst Country Club.

Lexi Yost won a three-setter at No. 1 singles and Marin Smith (No. 2) and Savanna Hanley (No. 3) won their respective spots through straight sets.

In doubles, Madeline Crites-Aubryanne Luegers (No. 1), Clara Dailey-Lauren Wallace (No. 3) and Grace Brouillette-Avery Walters (No. 4) each won in straight sets, including a tiebreaker at No. 1.

Next for Mullen is the two day (Friday-Saturday) Greeley West Invitational.

Girls Soccer

AURORA – The Mustangs leveled their record at 2-2 with a road shutout of Vista PEAK Prep in nonleague at Aurora Public Schools Stadium.

Senior Brooklynn Rich scored two goals to lead Mullen. Junior Keelee Rakowski and sophomore Kate Vezzani also scored.

Sloane McCarter, Vezzani, Katy DeNezza and Stella Zinis were credited with assists.

Mullen will have one more nonleague match, Saturday at Conifer, 6 p.m., before beginning Centennial League play on Tuesday, April 5, at home against Grandview. The Conifer match will be the Mustangs’ fourth on the road in their first five of the season and third in a row.
