Boys wrestling rolls Arapahoe; girls and boys hoops go down in Aurora to Grandview.
 
Mullen used five pins to down visiting Arapahoe 54-27 on Thursday night in a Centennial League dual match.

All told, the Mustangs won nine of the 14 matches.

Dale O’Blia (113 pounds and a two-time Colorado champion), Gilbert Antillon (126), Isaak Chavez (138), Colin Hart (157) and Oliver Scelza (215) each won by fall.

Tony Herrera (106), Richard O’Brien (150), Kaleb Valdez-Lemos (175) and Amani Fuqua were awarded forfeit victories.

The Mustangs will be in Broomfield this evening at 6 for a dual against Holy Family, one of the teams they will face when Class 3A regionals begin the postseason next month.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, Mullen, ranked No. 2 in 3A, will be in the Bear Creek Tournament, its final multi-team gathering before elimination wrestling.

The Mustangs girls will be at Chatfield on Saturday.

Boys Basketball

In Aurora, the Mustangs dipped below .500 after a 62-45 setback to the Wolves in the Centennial.

Mullen is 7-8 overall, 1-1 in league.

Grandview, which enjoyed advantages in height and length, led early and often in holding the Mustangs to single-digit scoring in each of the first two quarters. The Wolves led 34-18 at halftime.

Mullen cut its deficit to 11 points midway through the third quarter, but got no closer.

Overall, the Mustangs shot 33 percent (15-of-45).

Anderson Brendle (16 points), Jordan Leslie (12) and Ish Aceves (10) led Mustangs scoring.

Mullen resumes play on Saturday, when it will host Smoky Hill, ranked No. 3 in 6A, at 4 p.m. in league.

Girls Basketball

In Aurora in a meeting of defending Colorado champions, the Mustangs lost 53-34 to the host Wolves in the Centennial.

Mullen is 6-9 overall, 0-2 in league and has dropped six games in succession. The Mustangs are the four--time-defending state champions in 4A; Grandview won 5A a year ago.

A slow start hindered Mullen, which made only four of its first 12 shots, and it scored just four points in the third quarter.

Keaton Arangua-Egbert and Allison Schwertner each topped Mullen with eight points.

The Mustangs will resume play on Saturday, in league against Smoky Hill, 2:30 p.m., at Hutchison Fieldhouse.
