A Heavy Lean On the Core Four

A Preseason Look

As the Girls’ Volleyball season is on the horizon, head coach Jeff Oliver has high hopes and expectations for his 2023 version of his team. After last season, the Mustang’s volleyball team graduated seven seniors and will now look to a group of seniors, known as the Core Four, to lead them this upcoming season.  Led by the quartet of seniors, Coach Oliver and the Mustangs want to build on a solid 2022-2023 season by finishing out close games and eventually hosting a  regional postseason tournament on their way to a state championship.
That Core Four includes Carmela Carbone who will look to own the middle of the court this season by taking a huge step forward and “surprising people” in the words of Coach Oliver. Another rising senior is Devin Moore, who the team will turn to when they need a score because she is a guaranteed point off the set.  Coach Oliver will also rely on Lydia Gammon who is a great athlete and can play anywhere on the court.  The last member of the Core Four is Lauren Stanga who the Stangs will  rely on to run their offense since she is a great leader.  The focus for this team in 2023 will be on fundamentals and conditioning so they can extend plays and outlast their opponent.

These Mustangs are drawn towards finding limitless possibilities and that is what Coach Oliver and his team hope to do as they take the court this season. Their season gets underway on August 22nd against Lutheran High School.
