Distance Learning Will Continue - COVID-19 Update

Dear Mustangs,

As Pope Francis has reminded us, our shared Lenten journey has taken on new significance this year. As we move towards Easter and the miracle of the resurrection, we hope that your family is staying safe, healthy and peaceful. Though we are not physically together as a community, we continue to support each other during our time apart. Please remember to send us prayer intentions to Mrs. Niblack at Niblack@mullenhigh.com so that they can be shared in our daily prayers
As the spread of the virus continues in Colorado, Governor Jared Polis noted this week that all schools should prepare to not return to campus. While we are awaiting instruction from the state, we need to be prepared to continue distance learning through the remainder of the school year. Given the extension of the Stay at Home order by Governor Polis, the buildings at Mullen High School are officially closed until Thursday, April 30, 2020, and Distance Learning will continue through those days. This is not what we had hoped for but, as we do in all circumstances, we join together as a Lasallian community, steadfast in our mission of providing a quality education to all, especially to the poor. We Are Still Mullen and the education and formation of our students goes on.
We are so very grateful for the hard work of everyone in the Mullen community. We are driven to keep the culture and spirit of our school at the forefront of our efforts in Distance Learning. Our teachers’ tireless and phenomenal efforts have resulted in adjusted and updated lesson plans revisioned for a distance learning context. Our teachers’ love for their students is evident in this dedicated work. There was a minor break in learning because of our Lasallian educators’ quick action and our teachers and school leaders deserve commendation for their work during this challenging time.

The work continues and our staff and faculty will improve their approach and their lessons as we discover more about how we can serve our students best in the coming weeks. This week, students and teachers will be surveyed concerning what has been most effective and what has been less effective during these first days of Distance Learning. We will appropriately change and adapt as we go forward. Please know that, because of our Distance Learning posture, we are confident that we will be able to matriculate all students to their next grade level. Though how we are doing things differently than we planned, we are confident in our ongoing ability to provide high-quality education and formation.

We are also aware that many of the typical sacrifices families are making to provide their children a Catholic education are perhaps becoming even greater during this time. Some of our families are experiencing financial hardships in new and unexpected ways and might be concerned about their ability to continue to pay for a Catholic education for their children. Please know that our team is currently working through how to provide assistance for families most impacted by our current situation. As such, if you have concerns about your family’s financial situation, please send your concerns/questions to president@mullenhigh.com To that end, if there are families in our community who have the means to support others, know that there will be opportunities to directly support a Mullen family in need.

Know we are so grateful to you for working with us in this true partnership to educate your children. We are blessed to be part of a community which turns to Christ for the hope and peace that faith provides. As the Lasallian Prayer for Peace exhorts us: “We pray, God, for peace in our lives; in our towns, in our schools, in our families and in our hearts. We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us. We pray for a peace that will make us whole.”

We miss you and Love you!!!
