Kilah Freelon, Student-Athlete of the Week

High-school sports: Basketball (forward) and track and field (100- and 300-meter hurdles, and high jump).
What I’ve done lately: Has helped Mustangs basketball to a 3-1 start in the Centennial League in the new Season B.
Grade-point average: 3.7.
Class: Junior.
Why I attend Mullen: My main reason for attending Mullen was it was a challenge academically, very challenging for me, which I really wanted. I wanted something to make me a better person and education-wise … it also helps me with time management.
The best thing about my sport: I feel like basketball is more exciting for me and there’s a lot more energy. I like having a team -- you can depend on each other while you’re still independent. There are a lot of different aspects that challenge you athletically.
In my future: I would like to go to college and study sports medicine. I really want to stay in the athletic field. I want to do something for other people and athletes if I can. And I would love to play professionally. It’s just a dream of mine.
Pre-Game ritual: I listen to a specific play list that just gets me hyped up and gets me motivated. I will normally isolate myself for a few minutes before the game to make sure I’m in the zone.
Favorite college team: I love to watch Connecticut women’s basketball as well as UCLA.
Why I play: It gets my mind off anything stressful in life and keeps me motivated to keep going no matter what challenges I face. And the excitement and fun are something I look forward to in my day, even if practices are hard. I’d rather do that than schoolwork. It’s just a great stress reliever.
