O'Connell, Tolbert again lead 'Stangs

Mullen girls are 3rd, boys 4th in Dave Sanders Invitational in Littleton.
  
Mullen girls were third and its boys fourth in Friday’s Dave Sanders Invitational at Clement Park in Littleton as the Mustangs continue to enjoy a strong cross-country season.

Competing in the event named for the hero teacher-coach murdered in the historic massacre in 1999, the Mustangs fared well in the Division 2 Varsity races.

Junior Amy O’Connell led the Mustangs with a third-place finish, getting timed in 18 minutes, 55.60 seconds. She was followed by: 8. Elise Brear, 19:31.20; 16. Kira Van der Steen, 20:10.0; 21. Julia Brown, 20:28.60; and 40. Genna Hockin, 21:17.10.

Mullen scored 83 to winner Cheyenne Central, Wyo.’s winning 56.

For boys, senior Jack Tolbert was fifth (16:31.80). He was joined by: 13. Jacob Sushinsky, 16:49.50; 31. Owen McCarter, 17:21.90; 39. Travis Hockin, 17:37.70; and 60. Mason Atwell, 18:25.10.

The Mustangs totaled 141. Cheyenne Central (39) also won this team race.
